To Dakota State Fair Speedway!

Record-setting crowds enjoyed everything about
2009 Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100
HURON, SD (Sept. 19) - The 2009 Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100 began and concluded in front of record-setting crowds at Dakota State Fair Speedway Saturday. The crown jewel of the AMSOIL Dirt Track Series, the WISSOTA 100 drew nearly 400 cars to Huron. Promoter Orville Chenoweth, his staff and the entire community welcomed the racers and fans in a way that no host city has in the past, and the result was a resounding success.
On the track, the action was breathtaking from start to finish. There was something for everyone: great racing, last lap passes, big crashes and rollovers, and emotional crowning moments as the checkered flags flew on the weekend's final features.
In the WISSOTA Late Model division, Kyle Peterlin survived a slugfest with several top drivers to win the Friday night Race Of Champions after Kevin Carlson led almost all the way. Craig Thatcher won perhaps the most entertaining race of the entire event when he completed a slider on Ricky Weiss on the final lap of the WISSOTA Modified Race Of Champions to get the hard-earned victory. Jay Kintner dominated the Super Stock Race Of Champions; there was no doubt who was best in that class on Friday night. In the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division, Dan Ebert showed tremendous patience and discipline in tracking down Marshall Tofte to steal the victory using the inside line, and Tim Johnson got his first of two WISSOTA Street Stock victories in Friday's Race Of Champions. Finally, in the Mod Fours, Dustin Zieske - a former national champion - kept Josh Abrahamson at bay to the checkered flag in the ROC race.
One night later, A.J. Diemel did what he drove from Shawano, WI to do: he led all the way in the WISSOTA Late Model headliner on the final night. A late restart gave Jeff Wildung a shot at him, but the sole Wisconsin driver in the field accelerated away to get his second WISSOTA 100 title. Kevin "Buzzy" Adams left a ton of great racing behind him as he destroyed the WISSOTA Modified field during Saturday night's feature event. The defending national champion crawled from his car with tears in his eyes. Don Shaw adjusted his line on a mid-race restart and that helped him get away from Don Eischens, who threatened to steal the WISSOTA Super Stock feature win. Travis Saurer lost the lead to Curt Myers in the Midwest Mod headliner on the final night but with a show of gritty determination, chased his Wisconsin rival back down and took the thrilling victory. Tim Johnson picked up his second career WISSOTA 100 title, this time in the Street Stock division, and also his second major victory of the year when he topped the Saturday night feature field. In the Mod Fours, Justin Bjorklund was awarded the victory after Rob VanMil tangled with a lapped car on the final circuit. It was a thrilling way to start Saturday's feature action at Dakota State Fair Speedway. Complete feature results from 2009 features are available here.
Now, why would you miss that type of thrilling action in 2010? Everyone in WISSOTA is headed back to Huron in September. See YOU there, too!
